Autoimmune diseases are a growing global health burden, affecting millions of people and rising in prevalence. For most conditions, there is still no cure, and many patients live with chronic symptoms, damage across multiple body systems, and reduced quality of life. Acupuncturists need practical, evidence-informed strategies to support these patients alongside their ongoing medical care.

A practical framework for complex autoimmune presentations

When a patient arrives with recurring flares, fatigue, and inflammation, you need a clear way to connect your assessment, treatment choices, and their ongoing medical care.

This course delves into protocols to apply the TCM4.0+ approach for acupuncturists addressing autoimmune conditions: bringing TCM, PBM, and lifestyle medicine together in a practical approach to autoimmune care.

Learn assessment and treatment pathways designed to calm dysregulated immune responses, reduce inflammation, and improve symptom control.

You’ll explore common autoimmune presentations, including rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, autoimmune thyroiditis, and Type 1 diabetes, while considering how integrative care can work alongside conventional rheumatology and primary care.

What the TCM4.0+ Way brings together

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine: TCM perspectives, diagnosis, acupuncture, and Chinese herbal formulas.
  • Photobiomodulation: The evidence and biological mechanisms for PBM as an immunomodulatory adjunct within a multimodal treatment plan.
  • Lifestyle medicine: Nutrition, sleep, movement, stress, and microbiome support – and their relationship to chronic inflammation and immune dysregulation.

The goal is a practical, patient-centered care pathway you can bring into clinical decision-making and coordinate with the patient’s conventional care team.

What you’ll learn

  1. Summarize current prevalence and trends in autoimmune disease and explain why integrative care is timely and necessary.
  2. Describe TCM perspectives on modern, complex autoimmune disease.
  3. Explain the biological mechanisms linking poor diet, microbiome dysbiosis, sleep, stress, and chronic inflammation to immune dysregulation.
  4. Describe the evidence and mechanisms for PBM as an immunomodulatory adjunct and its place in a multimodal plan.
  5. Describe a practical TCM4.0+ treatment framework combining TCM, PBM, and lifestyle medicine for common autoimmune presentations.
  6. Recommend a collaborative, patient-centered care pathway that integrates with conventional rheumatology and primary care.
